New Technology Allows Fire Extinguishers to Be Monitored
SLC, Utah March 1, 2008

On average, an industrial facility manually checks hundreds to thousands of fire extinguishers each year. Peak Alarm has teamed up with a company that developed a device that monitors and documents fire extinguisher pressure constantly, notes movement of the extinguisher’s presence and checks for any obstructions to the device. Industrial managers now have a simple means to check their fire extinguishers on a 24/7 basis and meet mandated regulations.  “If you look at a building’s fire safety program,” Peak Alarm Operations Manager Clint Beecroft said, “Until now, the only aspect that is not electronically monitored is the fire extinguisher.”

With the support of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) under their belt, the design firm pushed forward to develop a product that we now know as en.Gauge®, an electronic notifying gauge. It enables fire extinguishers to monitor for presence, pressure and obstruction.
“It monitors the fire extinguisher 24/7 for, pressure, position and access,” Beecroft said. “If that fire extinguisher is removed from the wall, you know immediately that there is an issue.”
