New 385 Area Code Coming to Salt Lake City
**Security Systems In SLC Will Most Likely Need to be Updated**

Monday April 7, 2008

In March 2009, a new area code number 385 will overlay the existing 801 area code region. Those in the Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Weber and Utah counties will be affected. The new area codes will be given to new telephone customers while old customers will keep the 801 code.

Starting in June this year, the telephone company will begin a "permissive dialing" program, which will allow customers to dial either the 7 or ten digit number. By March 1, 2009 however, all customers will be required to dial a ten digit number even while making local calls. For long-distance calls, customers will still need to dial a "1" before the area code.

To prepare for the change, make sure that all of your telephone equipment can receive the 385 area code. You will need to reprogram automatic dialing equipment such as fax machines, computer modems, speed calling or call forwarding programs. Peak Alarm will begin notifying customers who's alarms will be effected by this new area code.
