New 385 Area Code Coming to Salt Lake City
**Security Systems In SLC Will Most Likely Need to be Updated**

Monday April 7, 2008

In March 2009, a new area code number 385 will overlay the existing 801 area code region. Those in the Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Weber and Utah counties will be affected. The new area codes will be given to new telephone customers while old customers will keep the 801 code.

Starting in June this year, the telephone company will begin a "permissive dialing" program, which will allow customers to dial either the 7 or ten digit number. By March 1, 2009 however, all customers will be required to dial a ten digit number even while making local calls. For long-distance calls, customers will still need to dial a "1" before the area code.

To prepare for the change, make sure that all of your telephone equipment can receive the 385 area code. You will need to reprogram automatic dialing equipment such as fax machines, computer modems, speed calling or call forwarding programs. Peak Alarm will begin notifying customers who's alarms will be effected by this new area code.

For more information, visit the Utah Division of Public Utilities.

For More information regarding the new 385 area code, contact your local sales office.

Integrating VoIP with Monitored Security SystemsVOIP

What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels via the Internet. The advantage of VoIP is that consumers can potentially lower their costs for telephone communication.

Warning:
Installation of VoIP hardware may disrupt the communication of the security system with the PEAK ALARM monitoring center.

Important:

If you install VoIP or digital phone service, it is essential that you call PEAK ALARM immediately at 888-822-7231 to determine whether a service call is necessary.

There are alternative solutions that we offer and you may continue to have security as well as the benefits of VoIP. Please call our VoIP associate, Greg Crafts @ 888-822-7231 to discuss your options.

New Technology Allows Fire Extinguishers to Be Monitored
SLC, Utah March 1, 2008

On average, an industrial facility manually checks hundreds to thousands of fire extinguishers each year. Peak Alarm has teamed up with a company that developed a device that monitors and documents fire extinguisher pressure constantly, notes movement of the extinguisher’s presence and checks for any obstructions to the device. Industrial managers now have a simple means to check their fire extinguishers on a 24/7 basis and meet mandated regulations.  “If you look at a building’s fire safety program,” Peak Alarm Operations Manager Clint Beecroft said, “Until now, the only aspect that is not electronically monitored is the fire extinguisher.”

With the support of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) under their belt, the design firm pushed forward to develop a product that we now know as en.Gauge®, an electronic notifying gauge. It enables fire extinguishers to monitor for presence, pressure and obstruction.
“It monitors the fire extinguisher 24/7 for, pressure, position and access,” Beecroft said. “If that fire extinguisher is removed from the wall, you know immediately that there is an issue.”
